Staff Weddings These stories from some of the Louisville Magazine staf tell you that weddings don't always go as planned (for beter or worse!). Senior writer Anne Marshall and Casey Chalmers April 18, 2009 On a lovely spring day Casey and I got married in Nashville, Tenn., where we were living at the time. Both of us are Catholic, so our guests had to endure a full mass along with the "I do's." We opted for a small, low-key wedding. Our reception took place just a few blocks from the church at one of our favorite local Italian restaurants. At the last minute we decided to walk there. The pictures of our trek remain some of our favorites. With the serious half of the celebration over, we're giddy, silly, back to our regular selves. Advertising account executive Emily and John Tom Douglas June 9, 2012 I had tried to include an ice sculpture in our reception decor, but my husband had labeled it "over the top." So I did what any bride would do and told the wedding coordinator to order one anyway . . . just something small. I walked into the Showroom at the Horseshoe Casino, which was beautifully transformed into a backdrop of white elegance, and saw that my husband had secretly ordered a larger, custom sculpture as a surprise for me. It was all adorned with fresh seafood, which made it even more perfect! The ambiance of the whole space was just as I had envisioned it, and the beautiful sculpture was more than I had hoped for. Sometimes it's just the litle things . . . . Editor Kane and Frances Webb November 2, 1991 The day we got married, the temperature was a near record low in Litle Rock, Ark. Naturally, the boiler broke in the church so there was no heat. In the videotape of our wedding, as the camera pans the crowd, it looks like a funeral because everybody is wearing heavy dark coats. And a good time was had by all! Managing editor Josh and Brianna Moss July 10, 2009 Here's Brianna and I the night before our wedding, each drinking an "aquarium" of cheap beer from the Pub, one of our favorite bars at Ohio University, which is where we met and had our wedding (on campus, not at the bar). She and her bridesmaids checked in earlier than my friends and me. We closed the town down, then went to the hotel's outdoor pool until like 4 a.m., when an employee kicked us out. At breakfast on wedding-day morning, I found out my father-in-law-to-be had called the front desk because he thought the noise at the pool would disturb some of our guests. He did not know the groom was part of the problem. Advertising production designer Elyse and Ted Heckenkamp November 7, 2009 The most memorable moment was when he shoved cake up my nose. Advertising director Stacey Hallahan and Daniel Joseph Hallahan Jr. May 24, 1986 We stayed at a hotel the night of our wedding because we weren't leaving on our honeymoon until the next day. In my haste I forgot to pack something to change into for the next day, so I had to check out of the hotel in my wedding dress. That was awkward. Senior editor Jack Welch and Nina Walfoort June 12, 1983 We were married by a graduate-school poetry classmate of mine, a Native American former state prison convict who had a minister's license. He tied his hair back in a ponytail, wore a terribly rumpled cassock he'd dug out of his closet, and married us along the south bank of the Milwaukee River on a gloriously sunny Saturday afernoon. 6 Spring | Summer BRIDE
