LOCAL WEDDINGS
Bilengele-Leacock
Nadine Bilengele
and Eder Dupret-Leacock
July 27, 2013
Nadine moved to Louisville from the Democratic Republic of the
Congo in 2004; Eder is originally from Guyana. The two met in
church working with its youth program.
They held their ceremony and reception in Lexington, where
Nadine's family lives. In the beginning she wanted a small, private
gathering, but the list kept growing and the couple welcomed
more than 200 guests — from as far away as Africa, England and
Canada — in a lavish ceremony at the Bethel Harvest Church in
Nicholasville, and reception in the grand ballroom at the Marriot
Grifn Gate. The beautiful shades of purple, lilac and plum were
evident throughout.
The bride's one requirement? "We couldn't have a wedding
without traditional African food." So, along with the wonderful
American cuisine, they were able to honor their heritage with their
traditional puf puf (a deep-fried dough), along with dry fsh, goat
meat and vegetables. It was a true African-American celebration.
Her best advice? "Have something within your monetary limit."
