The Finishing Touch Photo by Max Sharp A Fresh Perspective With global and local inspiration, Emilia Wladyka-Goodman (our gown model on p. 34) used everything from her own craf skills to modern technology to create her dream wedding. When Emilia Wladyka-Goodman got married last spring at a country club in Prospect, she had only been in Louisville for four months. Though originally from Poland, she has traveled the world working in the fashion industry, along the way meeting her husband, flm producer Joe Goodman. The two wanted a beautiful ceremony, but she had just two months to plan and style the wedding. "I wasn't familiar enough with Louisville to know where to go, so I decided to create a lot of what I needed," she says. "I made candleholders and various other decorations." Everything was white and silver, including her silver dress (made by a Polish designer who is also her friend) and the white lilies that adorned the space. The intimate gathering welcomed family and close friends. "I'm the oldest of two girls and this was the frst wedding in my family," she says. "My mother had been dreaming about this day for many years." Unfortunately, her family and friends couldn't travel from Poland to atend the wedding, but her parents, aunt and grandmother were able to watch and hear the wedding through Skype video communication. "My sister, Edyta, was my bridesmaid and came from Poland just for the wedding," the newlywed says. "What a surprise that was for me!" Despite missing her own family, Emilia says that Joe's mother, Doris Goodman, took her under her wing. "She stepped right up and focused on making my vision come to reality. I'm so grateful for how everyone made me feel right at home here in America," Emilia says. "Even though all of my family and friends were in Poland, the day was very special." — MA 100 Spring | Summer BRIDE
