S p r i n g / S u m m e r B R I D E 2 0 1 8 2 9 AMEARA WAHHAB & AUSTIN RAMSEY Ages: 24 and 27. Occupations: Ameara is an actor/musician and Austin is an actor/producer. They live in New York City. How they met: Austin's version: "A friend suggested we grab a bite at this cute taco restaurant in SoHo called Tacombi. I really wasn't feeling it, but something in my head told me to go. As we were making our way to the hostess stand, the people parted like the Red Sea. My eyes immediately gravitated toward the hostess. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. She smiled at me. I was immediately pulled back to earth, and I blurted out the only thing that felt right: 'You're really beautiful, by the way.' I wanted so badly to ask for her number, but something was holding me back. All of a sudden, the meal was coming to a close, and the bill was being authorized. As I looked up to give the hostess one last smile, I realized it was too late. She was gone. To my dismay, I put my wallet back in my pocket and headed out. As I reached the door, the security guard flagged me down and said, 'Hey, the hostess wanted me to give this to you.' I opened up this little piece of scratch paper, and there it was — Ameara's number." Ameara's version: "There was something about one of the guys in that group that grabbed my attention in a way I never felt before. I kept stealing glances at him throughout his dinner, but it seemed as if he wasn't looking back, so I simply had to take things into my own hands. The fact that I was moving back to Wisconsin in two months gave me the courage to do something pretty ballsy. When I saw the bill being paid, I tore a corner off Weddings LOCAL of the paper menu, wrote down my number and gave it to the security guard to give to the guy on his way out — while I anxiously hid in the bathroom." Engagement Story: "On my graduation day, Austin was standing outside, waiting for me with a bouquet of gorgeous flowers and a plan to celebrate in Central Park. At the park, Austin popped a bottle of Champagne and things were really good. Suddenly my phone started ringing. It was my friend and agent Sheri, who told me that I was a 'person of interest' for the lead in a short film called One Knee, meaning this was not an audition to ignore. Austin offered to read through the sides with me. When the couple ends up in a cute taco restaurant, where the woman sees herself standing at a hostess stand and a charming Southern man walks in, I realized something was going on. I looked up to see a tear in Austin's eye. He dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him before we even reached the end of the script. I, of course, enthusiastically said YES as Austin placed an incredible diamond ring on my finger, which I later learned he had personally designed." Austin's and Ameara's family and friends then appeared from crowds of people, ready to celebrate. Austin says, "Unfortunately my dad (Louisville TV and radio personality John Ramsey) couldn't be there for the big event. He flew into New York intending to celebrate the big day with everyone but had to immediately fly to Arizona to say goodbye to our family friend (Muhammad Ali). Rest in peace, Muhammad. I know you were looking down and celebrating with us that day." Date: September 2, 2017. Number of wedding guests: 175. Ceremony and reception: White Hall. Wedding theme: Clean, elegant and simple, with lots of white, wood and greenery in the decor. Entertainment: Ryan Cox Entertainment and Sarah Briet, who, Austin says, "has a silky smooth voice that really made our wedding special." Personal touches: Austin made moss balls and Ameara made white puff balls that hung above the dance floor. Ameara's sister wrote all of the signs, place cards and menu. First-dance song: A choreographed dance by Ameara's friend Morgan McMahon, with a mash-up of some of the couple's favorite songs, including "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" by Stevie Wonder, "You and Me" by Penny and the Quarters, "Summer Nights" from Grease and "That's What's Up" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The day in three words: "Loving, magical, FUN." Favorite part of the day: "Besides marrying each other, we really loved our DJ and we both danced all night," Ameara says. Really glad they: "Had a bourbon tasting. Most of our guests were from Wisconsin and really enjoyed trying all the different kinds of bourbon," she says. Wish they would have: "Been able to re-live the day over and over again because it was honestly the most fun we've ever had," she says. Honeymoon: Three days at the South Beach 1 Hotel, followed by a seven-day Royal Caribbean cruise, which was shortened because of hurricane storms.
